Green supported liquid membranes: The permeability activity-based linear operation (PABLO) method

چکیده
Supported liquid membranes (SLMs) containing novel green solvents are proposed as a sustainable alternative separation process in the recovery of biomolecules. In this work, succinic acid has been successfully extracted from model fermentation broths through stripping phase-facilitated transport mechanism with four different supported membranes: two eutectic (DL-menthol:OctA and N4444Cl:OctA), bio-based solvent eucalyptol ionic [C4pyrr][Tf2N]. A permeability activity-based that takes into account for first time solute-phase affinities developed using quantum chemical COSMO-RS method; corrects mass transfer driving force allows extraction predictions beyond concentration equilibrium. The best achieved experimentally eucalyptol-based SLM (concentration factor 1.4) an alkaline aqueous solution (0.5 M NaOH) phase. countercurrent cascade design is proposed, graphical method to determine stage number, interstage concentrations well area requirements presented. This new tool, Permeability Activity-Based Linear Operation (PABLO) method, will substantially enhance SLMs technology biorefinery industry.

Supported liquid membranes : instability effects
The instability behaviour of several supported liquid membranes (SLMs) has been studied for a system in which nitrate ions are removed from an aqueous feed phase and concentrated in a stripping phase. The composition of the aqueous phases and of the membrane liquid has been determined after the aqueous phases had flowed parallel to the membranes for a period of six days. From the experimental d...
متن کاملGas Separation by Supported Ionic Liquid Membranes
The use of ionic liquids (ILs) for gas separation processes recently has attracted much attention due to high solubilities of different gaseous species in ionic liquids [1]. The preparation of supported ionic liquid membranes (SILMs) is also reported for selective separation of different organic or gaseous compounds. Research activities have amongst others focused on CO2 separation from gas str...
متن کاملSupported liquid membranes: stabilization by gelation
A new method has been developed to increase the stability of supported liquid membranes. By applying a homogeneous gel network in the pores of the support both the mechanical stability (against liquid displacement) and the long term permeability increase substantially. The flux decreases only slightly because of the open structure of the gel network. A second technique, by which a thin dense ge...
متن کاملOn the Effective Permeability of Mixed Matrix Membranes
Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) are attracting significant interest for pervaporation and gas separation applications. To better comprehend the impact of filler particles within polymer matrices, the species permeation mass transport was theoretically studied by numerical simulation using finite differences. The Fick’s second law of diffusion was solved for a three-dimensional MMM to obtain the c...
متن کاملNitrate removal using supported liquid membranes: transport mechanism
A new method is developed for the removal of nitrate ions from water. Nitrate ions can be removed from water almost completely, with a mobile carrier, by counter-transport of chloride ions through a supported liquid membrane. The transport characteristics of this process, in which the water phases are flowing parallel to flat membranes, are described. The results show that depending on the expe...
